Dear Families, Community Members, and Staff,

It is with great pride and excitement that the Lafayette School District Governing Board and I share with you that Measure C passed with, at the time of writing this, over a 72% margin!!

The passage of this bond measure is another incredible testament to our special and unique Lafayette school community and how deeply we care about our schools. It is your generosity of spirit that is already making a tremendous difference for the future of all Lafayette School District schools. As a result of your continued support through this bond measure, we have $70 million dollars to begin addressing critical facilities needs at each of our schools. What a powerful legacy we will collectively share— one that will have many benefits for our children for years to come.

The ‘behind the scenes’ volunteer work that took place during this campaign has been tremendous. Under the skilled and relentless leadership of campaign chairperson extraordinaire, Julie Hurd, our amazing campaign team spent thousands of volunteer hours sharing information with the community. We are grateful to our Campaign Site Chairs: Christina Tibbals (Lafayette Elementary), Stephanie Francis-Jones (Burton Valley), Jennifer Palmer (Happy Valley), Jamie Roder and Sara Carter (Springhill), and Kelly Daggs (Stanley). We also extend our sincerest thanks to our Campaign Steering Committee: Teli Thayer and Claire Gallacher (Burton Valley), Raina Foster andJudy Sandberg (Lafayette Elementary), Andrea Hilsabeck and Dolorez Dumas-Arias (Happy Valley), and Amy Zawadski and Maggie Kurimai (Springhill). We also thank outstanding campaign treasurer, Julie Koo, lead data coordinator Michele Colaco, and data coordinators in the field, Kathleen BrekkeBethany Block, and Nora Nicholson. We also thank those who coordinated the placement of signs, Ali KrickMia Heglie, and Luisa Miles for their tireless efforts during the campaign.

To the 1,400 members of our greater school community, including our Lafayette City Council, Contra Costa Taxpayers Association, our 10 signatories (Dana Green, Mark Mitchell, Meredith Meade, Toni McShane, Ed Stokes, Marechal Duncan, Carol Harris, Don Tatzin, Patty Gonser, Stephenie Teichman), Lafayette Homeowners Council, Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, Lafayette Partners In Education (LPIE), and the Lafayette School District Parent Organizations who endorsed our campaign, we could not have found the path to victory without your early support.

As we begin moving forward with this exciting work, a timeline and updates regarding next steps will continue to be shared via our District website and during designated Governing Board Meetings. As part of the passage of our bond measure, we also look forward to creating an independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee. The purpose of this committee is to ensure that spending decisions made by the District as part of this bond measure are analyzed under direct taxpayer review. If you are interested in getting additional information about this committee, please contact Sharon Carman at the District Office at scarman@lafsd.k12.ca.us or (925) 927-3502.

We look forward to our continued journey together to make our already outstanding Lafayette schools the very best they can be. We are again deeply grateful to each of you for your support.

Very respectfully,

The Governing Board and Rachel Zinn, Superintendent

California schools are required to check immunization records for all new student admissions at Kindergarten/TK through 12th grade and all students advancing to 7th grade before entry.

Exclusion from school due to lack of, or incomplete immunizations is supported by Ed. Code and California State laws. Students will be excluded from class until proof of immunizations is provided.

If you have questions regarding school immunization requirements or need resources on how to obtain vaccinations, please contact our district nurse, Jenny Hawkins.

The recent passage of the 2012-2013 California Budget now includes a requirement that all school districts provide a Transitional Kindergarten program, which we are prepared to do at all of our elementary school sites. In the 2012-13 school year, this program will be offered to those students born on or after November 2 and on or before December 2 in 2007. For more information, contact Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Rachel Zinn, (925) 927-3500.
